The Weatherization Assistance Program at Springfield Partners for Community Action has been helping low-income Hampden county families for the past 25 years. Weatherization assistance provides home insulation and energy assistance to low-income and elderly renters and homeowners in Hampden County.
Last year we served more than 1,000 families and homes with weatherization services resulting in lower utility bills for those families. These services reduce average annual energy costs by $218 per household that number will surely increase given the rising cost of oil.
We work with all the local utilities to provide various weatherization services to low-income families.
Bay State Gas has a program that helps with heating and insulation needs to low-income families that is referred to as their Partners in Energy Program.
Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECO) has an Energy Savings Program (ESP) that installs energy efficient lighting, insulation, and even replaces inefficient refrigerators with a much more energy efficient unit. National Grid operates an Appliance Management Program this educates renters and homeowners about electrical use and various ways to save energy and money on their electric bill.
Our Energy Auditors are highly trained through various state programs and utility funded workshops.
Auditors will determine the energy saving measures needed, conduct and energy inspection of the home. Measures include:
• Air sealing
• Attic and/or sidewall insulation
• Weather-stripping
• Caulking and other minor repairs associated
with Weatherization work.
