These scholarship awards, each for $1,000, were distributed at an awards breakfast on June 10, 2011.
The breakfast's Keynote Speaker was Rev. J.P. Morgan Jr., Pastor of the Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ. He delivered an uplifting address urging scholars to pursue their goals in life; the text of the speech is available below.
Springfield Partners also honored Citizens Bank, the breakfast sponsor, with an award recognizing the bank's years of financial support for the scholarship program.

Springfield Partners for Community Action awarded 10 Community Scholarships of $1,000 each, as well as the Second Annual Ray Hershel Honorary Scholarship, on June 10, 2011.
The Second Annual Ray Hershel Honorary Scholarship is one, $1,000 award for college students pursuing a degree in journalism, communications or a related field. It was established by John Gormally, president and owner of WGGB-TV. Ray Hershel is an award-winning broadcast journalist and longtime chief political reporter for WGGB.

Since 2003, Springfield Partners has awarded 154 scholarships to low-income Springfield residents determined to attain economic self-sufficiency through higher education.
The Massachusetts Department of Housing & Community Development has been the major funder of these scholarship awards over the years. Citizens Bank has also generously funded several scholarships.

In 2010, the first-ever Ray Hershel Honorary Scholarship, generously funded by WGGB-TV President and Owner John Gormally, was awarded to Bryan Palmer.
