When you visualize yourself in a home, you have to jump on it. I would like to thank Springfield Partners for letting me participate in the IDA homebuyers program.

I’m a first time homebuyer. At the beginning of my journey, I started attending First Time Homebuyers classes. I started clearing up my credit and slowly saving money every month till I saved $2000.

And here I am today. I just received a $6000 check. Finally this journey is complete and I have found a home.

Growing up in the city of Springfield he has seen many friends lose their lives and freedom. Emanuel says “since before I was born there was a statistic stating how and why I wasn’t going to make it anywhere. Whether it was incarceration or death, I was bound to be a failure according to society.” He has taken all these words and used them as his motivation to overcome and succeed.

Emanuel’s ultimate goal is to become a doctor and give back to his community by working at Baystate Medical Center and someday opening a clinic that would treat patients regardless of health insurance or ability to pay.

This is the second year Emanuel has been awarded Springfield Partner’s Community Scholarship, he impressed the committee once again with his strong community involvement and academic success.

The two story house at 124 King Street that was purchased by Curtis Vaughn’s grandparents in the 1920s needed a lot of work. But Vaughn, who lives in the house with a son and a daughter, said at age 82 he was unable to do the repairs himself and couldn't afford to hire contractors.

"I spent a terrible winter here. My boiler blew up on me, then my water went out, then my electricity went out, so I had quite a hard time," Vaughn explained.

Mr. Vaughan is very grateful to Springfield Partners’ Weatherization Program for replacing his heating system, insulating the walls and attic, and for air sealing his home. All at no cost to him.

"Leanna has been with New Beginnings since she was 15 months old. I have never had a disappointing moment with the program. I have always had good communications with the teachers. I believe I got more than I bargained for. This was my first pre-school graduation and it was great! I would say any parent that’s looking for a good location for childcare should definitely consider New Beginnings. I have never ever had a disappointing moment with them. “

“We used to live in a small place, paying rent. I have two beautiful kids; I wanted them to have their own home where they could run around and play.

I have been working for Springfield Partners, New Beginnings - Early Education Center since 3 years. I heard about the IDA program in one of our staff meetings.

I was scared at first; I thought I had bad credit. After attending Financial Literacy and First Time Homebuyer workshops I found out my credit was good enough to buy my first home. I saved as little as $75 every month and within a year I had $2000 in my IDA account. Springfield Partners matched it with $4000 and I was able to put the down payment for my first home. I cannot thank Springfield Partners enough!”

“Springfield Partners’ IDA program helped me a lot. Without the money I probably would not have had enough for the down payment,” Mrs. Mercado said after acquiring her first home.

Glenda L. Mercado was the first Individual Development Account (IDA) graduate to purchase a home with her matched savings account through Springfield Partners.

Thanks to a $100,000 grant from Hampden Bank, her savings were matched twice over, and she had $6,000 for a down payment on her home, and she was also able to earn a bachelor’s degree.

The $100,000 donation produced 50 first time home buyers and leveraged $6.25 million in community investments.
