Springfield Partners for Community Action is the federally designated Community Action Agency (CAA) for the greater Springfield area, serving more than 11,000 low-income people annually.
Established in 1964 under the Economic Opportunity Act, Springfield Partners is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, SOMWBA-certified enterprise. The agency has 46 years of experience providing services and advocacy to alleviate the conditions of poverty for area residents.
Our mission is to empower people in need to attain self-sufficiency and economic stability.
We do this through education and outreach, and by offering programs to help people build assets, obtain affordable childcare, get free home weatherization and tax filing services, and much, much more.
Currently, one in four Springfield residents lives in poverty. The city has one of the highest child poverty rates in the country: 44 percent. One in four adult residents has dropped out of school and lack high school diplomas. This year, we struggle to help people amidst a deep recession that s left Springfield with a 13% unemployment rate and triggered foreclosures for one in every 200 city homeowners.
